The United Nations Association in Canada is excited to announce its inaugural Model Arctic Council, to be held in Whitehorse, Yukon, October 27-30, 2010. High school youth, from across the northernmost reaches of Canada, and delegations from other arctic countries, will gather to deliberate on the most pressing issues confronting the arctic. The Model Arctic Council (MAC) is a simulation of the Arctic Council that allows students to take on the roles of the various parties comprising the Arctic Council and explore topics of vital importance to the arctic from the point of view of the country or organization they represent.
This is the first time ever a simulation of the Arctic Council has been done in Canada and we know that for many this will be a first such opportunity to work with peers from within your special region. Registration is now open, and we welcome expressions of interest from students and teachers. We invite you to explore our website for more information about this exciting event and look forward to seeing you in October!
